Credit card can easily be called as modern day plastic cash. Most of you carry at least one credit card in your wallet. While you can make use of credit cards in plenty of situations, it must be said that if they are not used judiciously, you are inevitably inviting self-trouble. To make sure that you do not face a testing situation because of your credit card (like overusing) follow the rules of thumb. They are not like the complicated rule of thumb you study in physics they are simple but one thing you need to follow them is self-control. But following the rules of thumb will keep you away from falling into the pits of excessive credits and bad credit score.
Do not overuse your credit card
First and foremost rule of thumb. It is easy to fall into the temptation of using your credit card where you could have done without it. You feel that you are not paying to buy a product, but it finally comes back at you at the end of the month when you have to pay hefty bills. So, when you shop by your credit card, just calculate in your mind the amount you are piling up for your month-end bills. Treat your credit cards like a loan that you have to pay at the end of the moth.

Pay bills on time – Maintain a good credit score
A rule of thumb you cannot afford to forget. If you do not pay your credit card bills on time, then you will have to pay the arrears with fines every next month. So avoid it and do not overpay. A delay in the payment of credit card bills can seriously effect your credit score, which may further trouble you in getting a car loan, house loan or perhaps a job!

Cross check the bills
Another important rule of thumb. Always maintain an account of your credit card expenditures and cross check them with the bill you receive at the end of the month. The best way to do this is to store your receipts carefully at a safe place.

Do not lend your credit card
A rare but dangerous thing to do. Your credit card is your own property and very personal too. Anyone can misuse your credit card and it can have very dangerous consequences so keep your credit card ‘only’ with you.
