In fact, it was the troubles overcrowding alone can create that made me reach the solution that I should change my bass fishing time from mid days and afternoons to the dead of night. Now I dare to call my decision a wise one- an extremely wise one, for it enabled me to go home with bulks and bulks of bass. Now only I realize with regret that the mid day fishings had spoiled my long hours of bass fishing that would have been definitely amusing. The jet skiers, water skiers and pleasure boaters are sure to mess up your fishing mood.
When I say that bass fishing at night has got a whole lot of advantages you may count it silly. But what I state here is my own experience! The first and foremost is that only a minority undertakes to hit the water in the night. Now, how on earth can you say that you won’t be able to find a solitary pond or lake that provides you with an immense supply of fish?! (I shall ask you to avoid lakes for the water there in the night is likely to remain stained and muddied). This bass will usually be found on rocky structures with and without light weed lines. As you know, bass always prefer to stay cool. So the unbearable heat of the mid day makes these lot take refuge in the deepest cold waters. Isn’t it obvious that it’ll be troublesome to trace them at such depths? The pro is that the bass come to the shallow waters lured by the chillness of night that will make our task simpler. But remember, even a negligent disturbance will send them back to the deep waters. They are such sensitive lot.
Now the fishing tips. All the essential night fishing gear can be carried in a small tackle box. 4 to 6-inch skirted double tailed grubs, large soft plastic lizards, or 7 to 10-inch plastic worms all entice bass at night. Black colour is most desirable to attract the bass, but wine, purple, watermelon or brown too will do as these colors cast a fine silhouette in the water for bass to detect. Choice of colour is almost always an important aspect as regards bass fishing. Black short arm spinner bait with a large Colorado blade too will do well since it produces tremor that will attract the bass from even a pretty distance at the night. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass are likely to be trapped by this lure. Stanley Wedge spinner bait, hard- bodied crank bait, plastic worms and flies also are good baits. It will be beneficial if we can swim along with the bass making ourselves inconspicuous, while trapping them. Another most note worthy aspect is that smallmouth bass are schooling by nature so that there are chances that we can trap several bass in the immediate area.
Apart from the bugs, mosquitoes and some warm weather pests which are likely to disturb you (that too can be avoided with bug repellants) you will be having an enthusiastic and worthy time fishing the bass out in the middle of night. | | Author Info: Ashly Brook |
